Blueprint is Hiring for the 2024-2025 Term!

EXECUTIVE Position

Editor-in-Chief (EIC)

The Editor-in-Chief is someone who is leader oriented, organized, communicative, and has a keen eye for detail. Blueprint Magazines EIC is responsible for overseeing production of Blueprint on a monthly basis, ensures deadlines are met, and is the one that hires and supervises the work of all Blueprint staff and volunteers.

Some responsibilities of the EIC include:

  1. Hires the executive honorarium team and ensures they are properly oriented and trained.
  2. Meets regularly with the executive team.
  3. Manages the executive team and ensures proper supervision of all staff and volunteers.
  4. Seeks volunteers and submitters for Blueprint Magazine.
  5. Ensures that all Blueprint staff and volunteers are informed of and compliant with WLUSP policy, code of conduct, etc.
  6. Oversees and participates in activities undertaken to recruit and orient new Blueprint staff and volunteers (booths in the concourse, one-on-one training sessions, etc.).
  7. Conducts mid-year reviews of the executive team.
  8. Prepare, organize and manage Blueprints budget.
  9. Attend staff meeting when required.
  10. Ensure production is completed on time (content selection, editing, printing, etc.).
  11. Manages and oversees all uses or representation of the blueprint logo or brand (social media, blueprint website, etc.).
  12. Prepare a year end transition report for the next EIC of Blueprint Magazine.
  13. Any other duties required for Blueprint and/or by the President/Publisher.

Editor-in-Chief applicants must provide a resume, a 1-2 page platform, and a portfolio including their best work (written, photography, art, videography, etc). If you work with multiple art forms, please include one example of each.

A platform is a statement outlining an individual’s interest in a role, and the ideas or skills that one would bring to a team.

EXECUTIVE Honorariums

Literary Editor

The Literary Editor is someone who has a keen eye for immersive, detailed, and comprehensive written content. They are mainly in charge of copyediting selected content for Blueprint Magazine and ensuring that the content is suitable for each print. They are required to submit a minimum of one original piece of creative writing for every issue. They must have strong interpersonal skills, as they are responsible for effectively communicating with the Editor-in Chief and all other members of the magazine. They must also communicate with contributors and encourage others to contribute content towards the Magazine. The Literary Editor must have strong reading and writing skills, as copyediting and critical examination of text are imperative to this position.

Literary Editor applicants must submit their resume and a portfolio of their best written work. Please include 3-6 pages of original written content (poems, short stories, articles, etc).

Visual Content Manager

The Visual Content Manager is someone who has a keen eye for intriguing, comprehensive, and enticing visual content. They are mainly responsible for assessing photos and art pieces submitted to the magazine, ensuring the content is up to print standards and not offensive. The Visual Content Manager is also responsible for assisting in the creation of content for promotions, advertisements and the social media platforms. They are also required to submit a minimum of one visual arts piece per issue. They must have strong interpersonal skills, as they are responsible for effectively communicating with the Editor-in Chief and all other members of the magazine. They must also communicate with contributors and encourage others to contribute content towards the Magazine.

Visual Content Manager applicants must provide a resume and submit a portfolio including a minimum of three of their best visual works (photography, art, digital art, etc). If you work with multiple art forms, please include one example of each.

Events & Marketing Manager

The Events and Marketing Manager plays an important role in Blueprint Magazine’s success as they must share and advertise Blueprint’s name and image across the campus, online, and within the community. They must have strong interpersonal skills, as they are responsible for effectively communicating with the Editor-in Chief and all other members of the magazine. They must also communicate with contributors and encourage others to contribute content towards the Magazine. Possessing any skills, experience and knowledge of marketing, creative approaches for marketing, and knowledge of the multiple advertising mediums necessary for promoting in-person and online would be an asset but not required for application.

Events and Marketing Manager applicants must provide a resume and attach a 1-2 page platform outlining visions and goals for this position. Also, please include any previous events or marketing experience (if applicable).

Videographer/Video Editor

The Videographer/Video Editor is someone who is able to stay organized and has good time-management as their main responsibility is to create intriguing and informative videos for Blueprint Magazine consistently throughout their semester. They must have strong interpersonal skills, as they are responsible for effectively communicating with the Editor-in Chief and all other members of the magazine. They must also communicate with contributors and encourage others to contribute content towards the Magazine.

Videographer/Video Editor applicants must provide a resume and submit a portfolio including a minimum of three of their best video edits. Also, please provide detail if you have any previous experience with any Adobe Creative Suites or any other relevant editing software.

VOLUNTEER Positions

Internships

In collaboration with the senior staff team, Blueprint Interns will have the opportunity to assist in editing written submissions, formatting visual submissions, helping with production, and assisting in the promotion of new issues and events. Interns will have the opportunity to get their feet wet and develop their skills with a variety of different aspects of the publication, so an enthusiasm to learn is important for this position. We will try our best to suit projects and assignments to Interns’ interests.

Writing Team

The Writing Team is managed by the Literary Editor, who will be sending reminder emails to Members about upcoming submission deadlines. Members are required to submit at least one written piece per issue to maintain their spot on the Writing Team (unless due notice is provided to the Literary Editor). Members are given the opportunity to experience the world of publishing first-hand by working with the Literary Editor to complete the writing, editing, and copy editing process before the final piece is published.

The above position requires a portfolio of the applicant’s best written work. Applicants must submit their resume and a portfolio of their best written work. Please include 3-6 pages of original written content (poems, short stories, articles, etc).

Visual Content Team

Similar to the Writing Team, the Visual Content team is managed by the Visual Content Manager, who will be sending reminder emails to Members about upcoming submission deadlines. Members are required to submit at least one visual piece per issue to maintain their spot on the Visual Content Team (unless due notice is provided to the Visual Content Manager). Members are given the opportunity to contribute to the magazine by providing enticing images based on current themes that will be published as visual cues alongside the magazine’s written work.

The above position requires a portfolio of the applicant’s best visual work. Please include 3 examples of whichever medium you create: drawing/sketching, painting, photography, digital art. If you work with multiple art forms, please include one example of each.

Events and Marketing Team

The Events and Marketing Team is managed by the Events and Marketing Manager, who will be sending reminder emails to Members about upcoming content posting and events. Members are expected to help spread the word about Blueprint and any events that will put on and help create content for social media posting and promotions for new print issues. Members are given the opportunity to experience the world of events and marketing including social media posting and events planning/organizing. 

The above position requires a resume and any examples of social media content creation or events planning. 

Video Content Team

The Video Content Team is managed by the Video Editor, who works along side the intern to make videos for social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram. The videos can include information regarding an upcoming issue, launch parties, trailers/teasers, etc. Because Blueprint Magazine is published on paper, the video content team allows those artists who create content through videos to feel apart of Blueprint and Laurier’s artistic community.
