Soul’s Breath

By Rebecca Allison

There is a falsehood in the written word
The presence of choice
There is no more ability of the pen
To control the action of characters
As the amount of breaths taken by a neighbour
The pen is but an observer
Documenting the actions and thoughts
Of souls beyond maintenance
They breathe of their own accord
Alive and able
To move and think as they choose
If only along a page
