Mental Workspace

By Rebecca Allison

The mental workspace,
Clear,
Prepared,
Empty.
Neurons scan the hallowed halls of the hypothalamus,
For a memory,
A thought,
An emotion,
Inspiration,
A place to begin.
Hair cells growing weary,
Of the tapping sound of a pen,
Motor neurons,
Readily awaiting chemical instruction.
Hormones,
Encouraging further production of adrenaline,
In a fruitless attempt to force productivity.
And yet a blank page remains.
