Two Mirrors

Two Mirrors, by Yasaman Shayangogani

When I was a child, the upstairs bathroom of the house I grew up in had a large mirror as well as a mirrored medicine cabinet on the wall adjacent to it.

I used to sit on the bathroom counter, open up the medicine cabinet door and, with amazement, watch the resulting optical effects,

continually wondering what was at the end of that tunnel of repeated-ness.

::::

once I had a dream
that I was in
that bathroom again
and the house
(along with the world)
was filled with clear blue
water
::
water
I did deem
was oft my kin
wherein maids not men
were so doused
and thoroughly hurled
‘tween emotion and matter
